The Acalanes Dons were able to defeat the Berkeley Yellowjackets on Friday night, to a score of 57-28. This was an exciting game between two quality programs who were meeting for the first time. Fortunately for The Dons, they had more highlight plays that gave their offense the edge.

Coach Burnsed, who’s a retired athletic director and teacher, can’t stay away from the football field. “I love working with these boys, I don’t see myself stepping away from coaching anytime soon,” says Burnsed. In the offseason he runs a weight training program to enhance the development of young student-athletes. During the month of February, you can find Coach Burnsed with his wife in Florida enjoying each other’s company over breakfast.

When asked what being named the Charlie Wedemeyer Memorial Coach of the Week means to him, Coach Burnsed said, “there are a lot of good high school coaches out there who deserve this award, so it is a great honor to be recognized.” Burnsed enjoys the process of working with young coaches to help them develop and hone their skills

This will be Coach Burnsed’s 41st year coaching and he continues to put together a great team year after year. From what they have shown this year, there is no doubt this team will not be any different.

As our 49ers PREP Charlie Wedemeyer Memorial Coach of the Week presented by U.S. Bank, Burnsed will receive a $1,000 grant for the Acalanes football program from the 49ers Foundation. As part of this award, he will also receive two tickets to a 49ers home game where he will be recognized on the field during the pregame ceremony. Burnsed will also be invited to visit the SAP Performance Facility to watch a closed practice where 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan will officially present him with his award. Burnsed will be featured on the 49ers Cal-Hi Sports Report presented by U.S. Bank on Sunday's at 6 & 10 p.m. on NBC Sports California, which will continue to air throughout the week.

Congratulations, Coach Burnsed!
