2. NFL pedigree


Fields’ father, also named Mark, played nine seasons in the NFL as a linebacker for the Saints, Rams and Panthers. According to pro-football-reference.com, Fields recorded 755 total tackles to go along with five interceptions, nine forced fumbles and eight fumble recoveries in his career, which began when he was selected 13th overall by New Orleans in the 1995 NFL Draft.


The elder Fields teamed with Irv Smith, Sr., the father of the Vikings rookie tight end, for three seasons with the Saints. He missed the entire 2003 season after he was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s disease. He returned for the 2004 season and played in the Pro Bowl, but he retired after learning the disease had returned.


3. College stats at Clemson


Fields played in 48 career games with six starts at Clemson. He recorded 45 total tackles, five tackles for loss and a sack.


He also had one career interception, which he returned 42 yards for a touchdown against Boston College. Fields also tallied 13 total pass breakups.


Fields helped Clemson win national titles in 2016 and 2018.
