Thielen’s play put the Vikings at the Seahawks 6-yard line, but a clipping penalty on tight end Kyle Rudolph backed them up to the 21.

Minnesota chipped away at the penalty yardage but wasn’t able to get in the end zone. A 3-yard run by Alexander Mattison and 6-yard catches by rookie Irv Smith, Jr., and Stefon Diggs set up a short field goal for Dan Bailey, who made the 24-yard attempt to put the Vikings on the board first.

The Vikings first possession of the evening looked steady to start but failed to yield any points.

Minnesota started the ball game on offense and picked up some chunk plays right off the bat, thanks to a 5-yard run by Mattison, 11-yard catch by Rudolph and consecutive catches by Thielen for gains of 6 and 5, respectively.
