WESTFIELD, Ind. — Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck will sit out the next three training camp practices as he continues to deal with a nagging calf injury, head coach Frank Reich told reporters today.

Reich said he met with Luck earlier in the day, and while the quarterback is “continuing to progress with his strength” in his calf, there’s “still a degree of pain,” so he’ll sit out the next three practices as a precaution and then the team will re-evaluate his status.

“We’ll continue to work with our medical staff on a plan moving forward,” Reich said.

The second-year head coach said he remains “confident and optimistic on Andrew’s situation.”

“It’s still day-to-day,” he added. “We’ll do what’s best for him and the team.”

Luck aggravated the calf injury during the offseason and missed the entire on-field portion of OTAs and veteran minicamp. After taking part in two of the team’s first three camp practices as a limited participant and still feeling some pain and discomfort in his calf, however, Luck and the Colts decided to keep the quarterback off the practice field for the time being.

The eighth-year Stanford product has been using training camp walkthrough sessions as his “practice,” taking all the first-team reps, while also working in throwing sessions to the side.
