ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Broncos have released cornerback A.J. Bouye, the team announced Wednesday.

Bouye appeared in just seven games for the Broncos in 2020 as he battled a series of injuries. He was later suspended for the final four games of the season.

Denver acquired Bouye in March of 2020 for a fourth-round pick in hopes that the 2017 second-team All-Pro cornerback would return to form. Bouye instead recorded just six passes defensed and 23 tackles on the year.

Bouye did not record an interception for the first time since he assumed a role as a starter in 2014.

He suffered a shoulder injury in Week 1 against the Titans that landed him on IR until Week 7. He then suffered a concussion late in Week 8 that kept him out of the team's Week 9 game against Atlanta. Then, late in the season, Bouye was suspended six games for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing substances.

Bouye served four games of his suspensions and would have missed the first two games of 2021, had he remained with the Broncos.

Veteran cornerback Bryce Callahan and 2020 third-round pick Michael Ojemudia remain under contract for Denver, among other players at the position.
