ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Rookie inside linebacker Justin Strnad will miss the entire 2020 season after undergoing surgery on his wrist, Head Coach Vic Fangio said Monday.

Strnad suffered the injury during Sunday's training camp practice and exited the field early during a team period with a trainer.

"It was a dislocation," Fangio said. "That in and of itself wouldn't put him out for the year, but there [were] other complications, too."

Strnad, a 2020 fifth-round pick, was expected to help the team in its nickel defense and was receiving second-team reps early in camp. He earned honorable mention All-ACC honors twice in college but had his senior season cut short with a bicep injury.

Linebackers Josey Jewell, Josh Waston, Joe Jones and Justin Hollins may need to take on an increased role in Strnad's absence, particularly in pass coverage. Hollins had been practicing with the outside linebackers but shifted over to practice with the inside linebackers on Monday.

Strnad was just one of 11 players to be held out of Monday's session. WR KJ Hamler (hamstring), WR Juwann Winfree (groin), CB Michael Ojemudia (quad), S Alijah Holder (soft tissue), CB De'Vante Bausby (soft tissue), LB Todd Davis (calf), OLB Malik Carney (sick, not COVID-related), WR Tim Patrick (soft tissue), TE Austin Fort (knee) and DL Mike Purcell (calf) all missed the team's light work.
