The Cardinals' home game against the 49ers, originally left open for either a Saturday or Sunday game on the original schedule, has been set for Saturday, Dec. 26 at State Farm Stadium.

Kickoff is at 2:30 p.m. (4:30 p.m. ET)

In what could be an interesting twist to the game, it might not be the only one the 49ers play at State Farm Stadium in December.

Santa Clara county in California -- where the Niners practice and play their games -- has imposed a temporary ban on all contact sports, including on the pro level, through Dec. 21. The Niners would also have to go through a quarantine period if they were to leave the county to play and return.

That means they will need a place to play and practice, and NFL Network reported that a likely scenario is at State Farm Stadium. The 49ers have three home games left, two in the current restriction window, and none are in direct conflict with the Cardinals home schedule. Only once are both teams playing at home the rest of the season -- this coming week, when the Cardinals host the Rams on Sunday, Dec. 6 and the 49ers host the Bills on Monday night, Dec. 7.

If that were to happen, the Dec. 26 game would actually be one of many the 49ers would play in the building this month.

The league is using the Dec. 26 game as a chance to broadcast it nationally exclusively on Amazon Prime Video and Twitch, as the NFL continues to look to the future of how their games might be distributed to viewers. Locally, the game will still be broadcast over the air as well on Fox 10, in addition to being streamed on the Cardinals' mobile properties.
