“Cancer survival rates are increasing due to improved treatments and the fact that we’re catching the disease earlier – but there’s more work to be done,” said Bellin Health President & CEO Chris Woleske. “This high-visibility campaign is an important part of those efforts, and we are honored to partner with the Packers and the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation on this campaign.”
Packers Vs. Cancer, which will run throughout the month of October, also features a variety of fundraising efforts, including an opportunity for shoppers at the Packers Pro Shop to contribute by adding $1 or more to their purchase that will go directly to the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation. Those who donate during October have the opportunity to put their name on a special card that will be displayed in the Pro Shop throughout the month.
Packers linebacker Blake Martinez and kicker Mason Crosby, who will serve as spokespeople for the initiative, took part in a public service announcement, which will air in October throughout Wisconsin to remind fans how they can be a part of Packers Vs. Cancer. Several Packers players will also join the effort, visiting cancer patients in the hospital and meeting with survivors throughout the season.
Packers players will also bring the Packers Vs. Cancer initiative to the high school level by visiting with fans at Kaukauna High School, when the Ghosts take on the Hortonville High School Polar Bears on Oct. 18. Community members are invited to the game, and rally towels and t-shirts will be for sale, with proceeds benefitting the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation.
Named for the legendary Packers coach, the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation is dedicated to winning the battle against cancer by funding advancements in cancer research and compassionate care.
“I’m thankful to say this is the third year of the Packers Vs. Cancer campaign to raise awareness of the need to fund treatments to prevent cancer, care for cancer patients and conduct research to find a cure,” said Benjamin R. Haas, president, Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation. “In the past year, we’ve been able to provide support for immunotherapy research to help children fight cancer, research to find treatment for solid tumors in children and a mobile coach that offers mammograms to improve breast cancer survival through early detection.”
