No news: Nagy had nothing new to report Monday on the left-shoulder injury that Trubisky suffered on the sixth play of Sunday’s game.
“We’ll know more here throughout the day,” Nagy said. “I think the biggest thing is making sure that he feels good and then doctor-wise and all that stuff, he’s OK. We’ll keep an eye on it. I’ll know more later on here today.”
If Trubisky is unable to play Sunday against the Raiders in London, Nagy said the team would be confident in starting Daniel, a 10-year NFL veteran. Daniel opened two games last season when Trubisky was hurt, completing 53 of 76 passes for 515 yards with three touchdowns, two interceptions and a 90.6 passer rating in a win over the Lions and an overtime loss to the Giants.
“If he’s who ends up playing, then we feel very comfortable,” Nagy said. “We ran into this last year, right? If Chase is your guy, we’ll have a plan and then same thing with Mitch. So I feel comfortable. I know the other teammates feel comfortable with him as well. We’re fortunate to be in this position.”
No details: Nagy also declined to provide any details on the situation involving linebacker Roquan Smith, who was a late scratch Sunday due to an undisclosed personal issue.
“I’m just going to say it was a personal issue,” Nagy said. “I’m not getting into anything else. I’m just going to completely keep it at that.”
Smith watched Sunday’s game from the Bears sideline in street clothes. His replacement, Nick Kwiatkoski, registered a team-high nine tackles as well as a strip/sack of Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins.
Nagy was peppered with questions from reporters about Smith throughout Monday’s press conference.
“It’s completely a personal issue,” Nagy reiterated. “I’m not going to answer any more about it. That’s where it’s at right now. I understand where y’all are coming from, but out of respect to this right now, I just want to leave it at that.
“It was just something that [Sunday], it was a decision that we ended up making. We felt that that was what we wanted to do at the time. Our guys handled it well. They handled it great. I thought ‘Kwik’ did a good job at responding to it and he stepped up and had a hell of a game.”
Roster move: The Bears on Monday waived defensive lineman Abdullah Anderson, who played in each of the last two games and registered one tackle in Sunday’s win over the Vikings.
Anderson was waived by the Bears Sept. 11, signed to the practice squad Sept. 12 and promoted to the active roster Sept. 23.
