The Bears on Wednesday were awarded tight end J.P. Holtz off waivers from the Redskins and waived defensive tackle Abdullah Anderson.
Holtz played 14 snaps on special teams last Sunday in Washington’s 32-27 season-opening loss to the Eagles. He was promoted to the active roster for the game because tight end Jordan Reed was unable to play due to a concussion.
Holtz entered the NFL in 2016 with the Browns as an undrafted free agent from Pittsburgh. He’s spent parts of the last three seasons on the practice squad with the Browns in 2016-17 and the Redskins in 2018.
