Hours before their game against the Redskins, the Bears on Monday promoted defensive tackle Abdullah Anderson from the practice squad to the active roster and terminated the contract of tight end Bradley Sowell.

Anderson originally signed with the Bears in 2018 as an undrafted free agent from Bucknell and spent his rookie season on the team’s practice squad.

The 6-4, 295-pounder made his NFL debut Sept. 5 in a Week 1 loss to the Packers. He was then waived Sept. 11 and re-signed to the practice squad the next day.

Anderson will provide depth on a defensive line that will play without Bilal Nichols, who broke his hand in last Sunday’s win over the Broncos.

Sowell is an eight-year NFL veteran who has been with the Bears since 2017. During the offseason, he was switched from offensive tackle to tight end.
