Vikings Have 14th Overall Pick in 2021 NFL Draft

The Minnesota Vikings are set to have the 14th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.


The selection number was determined by the reverse order of finish in 2020.


Minnesota finished the 2020 season on Jan. 3, 2021, with a 7-9 record and third in the NFC North, narrowly missing the expanded playoffs.


The Vikings are one of four teams (along with the Los Angeles Chargers, New England Patriots and Washington Football Team) that finished with that record.


In order to break ties, the NFL then implements a strength-of-schedule tiebreaker to set the order of selection in the first round.


After the first round, teams with identical records rotate order of selection. The Chargers are scheduled to select 13th, and the Patriots are scheduled to select from the 15th overall spot. The order of selection for those teams and the Vikings will rotate in subsequent rounds.


Washington won the NFC East in the regular-season finale to make the postseason, so its order of selection will be determined by its finish in the playoffs.

Minnesota traded its second-round pick of 2021 (and a 2022 conditional pick) to Jacksonville for Yannick Ngakoue before sending the defensive end to Baltimore for a 2021 third-round pick and 2022 conditional pick.
